According to the reports of a TV news channel, Times Now, Sarabjit Singh is to be hanged on May 1, 2008. The report says that the Indian prisoner in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail has been issued fresh death warrant on Thursday. Sarabjit's lawyer Rana Abdul Hameed has also confirmed of the issue of the death warrant. Hameed said that now the Pakistani authorities have decided to hang him, though Sarabjit's family has asked the authorities to pardon him.
It is to be noted that the Pakistani authorities had postponed his hanging for a month on the request of the Indian government. Earlier this year, Kashmir Singh, another Indian prisoner imprisoned in Pakistan for 36 years was released and this raised hopes for Sarabjit's family. But Kashmir Singh shocked the world by saying that he was indeed a spy in Pakistan.
Sarabjit is said to be involved in serial bomb blasts which rocked Lahore and Multan in 1990. Meanwhile Sarabjit's family got a nod from the Pakistani authorities on Wednesday to meet him in Pakistan.
