Delhi's Patiala House Court has sentenced Sanjeev Nanda to five years in jail in the BMW hit-and-run-case. Earlier, the court had found him guilty and had reserved the sentencing part for today. Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar found Sanjeev Nanda guilty under Section 304 (2) of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Rajiv Gupta who was found guilty of dismantling evidence has been punished with one year imprisonment and a Rs.10,000 fine. Two other accused Bhola Nath and Shyam Singh have been found guilty of cooperating in dismantling the evidence. They both have been sentenced for six months. They will have to pay a penalty of Rs.100 each. However, all the three have been given bail by the court against the surety of Rs.10,000 each.
Sanjeev was quiet and he took the whole procedure as it went. However, his father Suresh Nanda said that he would look into the judgment before saying anything. Nanda's counsel was dissatisfied with the judgment. Showing his irritation towards media, he candidly said that now media might be happy as the acquittal of Nanda would have meant travesty of justice.
