India’s Sania Mirza has gone up by nine places in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings while Somdev Devvarman has moved up by 13 places on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) chart rankings. The rankings were released on Monday.
Somdev, now ranked 140, had a good start this season, qualifying for the main draw of LA Open and then Legg Mason Tennis tournament. He astonished everyone by beating World No. 15 Croat Marin Cilic in the opening round before going down to big serving Ivo Karlovic.
Sania, whose attempt to win back-to-back International Tennis Federation (ITF) titles failed after she lost the Vancouver Open final on Sunday, is now at the 74th position. She has maintained her double’s ranking at 49th position.
Other Indian who rose in the ranking chart was Prakash Amritraj .He jumped three places to be at 261st position on the ATP singles ladder.
Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are static at sixth and ninth position in the men's double rankings chart.
