The face of Indian women tennis overseas, Sania Mirza dropped to the 32 rank owing to her absence from the WTA circuit because of a wrist injury. The 21 year old tennis sensation has however successfully been able to retain her 19th spot in the doubles list with 1830 points. Sania has not been active in the WTA circuit owing to her fatal wrist injury, which she acquired in the US and since then has been able to get only 917 points in her kitty.
The WTA rankings came out on Monday, 21 April 2008. The tennis star from Hyderabad is believed to make a comeback next month in the French Open. Recently she underwent an operation in the US for her wrist injury. Amongst the men tennis stars, Indian veterans Mahesh Bhupati and Leander Paes are steady at the 13th and 24th positions respectively, in the ATP double rankings.
