World No. 74 and India’s woman tennis player, Sania Mirza, could not make it to the third round of US Open. She was knocked down completely by the Tenth seed Flavia Pennetta in the second round of the tournament. Sania lost to Pennetta for a 6-0, 6-0.
Pennetta, who is the first Italian woman to reach the world's top 10, took over the Indian player in just 50 minutes. She will be playing against French 17th seed Amelie Mauresmo or Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada in the third round.
While Pennetta had been enjoying success in a continuous fashion, after she won grabbed the title in Los Angeles last month, India’s Sania Mirza has been playing most of her tennis on the ITF circuit, a level below the main tour.
The first set was over in 22 minutes and despite the fact that Mirza had a game point in the first and fifth games of the second, she was not able to make her mark on the scoreboard as the Italian made her way to third round.
