Samsung has introduced a unique solar-powered mobile called Samsung Guru E 1107 which enables the users to charge the phone even when there is no power. Samsung Guru E 1107 is world's first solar-powered mobile phone that allows the users to charge its battery in the sun. While interacting with the media during the launch of the mobile phone, JS Shin, president and CEO Samsung southwest Asia said that the company has come up with the new phone to cater to the needs of the people who suffer from unstable electricity supply.
The new Samsung Guru E 1107 mobile phone will be available in the market by the mid-June at a price of Rs 2799. According to Sunil Dutt, country head of Samsung mobile division, the solar-powered mobile will be initially imported from Korea and by the next month, the company will start manufacturing the handset at its Noida unit. Samsung Guru mobile phone comes with lots of features like FM radio, MP3 ring tones, embedded games and torchlight.
The unique phone is capable of providing around 5-10 minutes of talk-time with one hour of solar charging, apart from the normal electric charging. Samsung claimed that the handset has been made out of recycled material and is free from harmful substances such as beryllium and phthalates. Union minister for new and renewable energy Farooq Abdullah, who launched the phone, said that it is very essential that solar energy should be used in as many applications as possible so that it can benefit the people living in far-flung areas where there is erratic or even no power supply.
