GT-S5600 Star is the latest touch-screen mobile phone to be launched from Samsung. Samsung has used its own interface TouchWiz for this phone. The phone is slim and lightweight and weighs around 90g. It has a 2.8 inch screen with a resolution of 240x320 pixels.

Star’s interface has three home screens. There is a widgets side bar from which one can throw widgets onto the screen. The screens can be slid left or right. Widgets can be dropped on either sides or at the centre. The background of the main screen is not static. It uses a part of an image taken from the phone memory and maintains the aspect ratio and resolution automatically.

There is a neat Photo Contacts option. The photo contacts are displayed in semicircle. The photo has to be tapped and a list appears from which a call can be made or a text message can be sent or an e-mail can be sent.

Star does not have a QWERTY touchpad. It has a standard keypad. The phone has a number of pre-installed applications. There is an application through which pictures can be shared on portals like Flickr. There are quite a few pre-installed java games. There are other applications like, FM, voice recorder, RSS reader. The audio player has modes like Shuffle and Loop. There is a library where songs can be arranged according to artist, album, genre, etc. The video player supports MPEG4, WMV, H.246, and H.263.

Star has a 3.2 MP camera with LED. The mobile uses a 1000mAh battery.  It is a good 3G device and has a stylish look, priced at Rs 12,600.
