Saina Nehwal of India advanced into the second round of the French Super Series badminton tournament. She defeated Juliane Schenk of Germany in her first-round clash in Paris.
The Eighth seed Saina outclassed the German by 21-18, 19-21, 21-13 in a 53-minute hard-fought battle on Wednesday.
The other Indian Jwala Gutta, meanwhile, notched up wins both in the mixed doubles and women's doubles category with her partners V Diju and Ashwini Ponnappa respectively.
The 26-year-old Jwala with her team-mate Ashwini defeated the Dane pair of Line Damkjaer Kruse and Mie Schjott-Kristensen by 21-17, 21-18 .The Indian pair of Jwala and Diju registered a 21-19, 21-15 win over the French pair of Baptiste Careme and Laura Choinet in a game of 28 minutes.
Indian men's doubles combo of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas also crushed the French pair of Maxime Renault and Sylvain Ternon by 21-14, 21-15 in just 21 minutes. However, Anup Sridhar, Chetan Anand and Arvind Bhat, were knocked out in their first-round men's singles encounters.
