It is self-belief which propels India’s Saina Nehwal to strive for success on the badminton court. This is evident from the fact that while playing in the semi-final round of the 2008 Singapore Super series badminton tournament against world number 10 Zhou Mi of Hong Kong, the Indian badminton ace believed that she could defeat her more popular opponent. Even though Nehwal failed to achieve the goal, she nevertheless had come very close prior making an exit 17-21, 21-19, 21-11 in almost an hour long match against Mi. Saina took the first game after coming from behind.
It seemed as if she will pull out an upset over Hong Kong’s Zhou Mi, an ex all-England champion when she inched back to 19-19 in the second game. But Zhou Mi closed off the badminton match and then the decider to conclude the prospect of winning by her Indian opponent. But even this defeat fails to dip Saina’s enthusiasm who said she was actually satisfied with the way she played. Saina is next going to play in the impending Indonesia Super Series and Thailand Grand Prix. It is apparent that she is confident of winning the next time as she quips, ‘This is only the first tournament in the run up to the Olympics. But I am happy the way I have played.’
