18 year old Saina Nehwal has made to Top 10 in Badminton World Federation Rankings; she is the second Indian women to do so after Ami M Ghia. Ami broke up in Top 10 in the year 1983. The year so far has been a roller-coaster for Saina Nehwal. This year she won her second Grand Prix Chinese Taipei Open and reached into quarter-finals of Beijing Olympics.
Top 10 players in the current ranking are: ZHOU Mi (Hong Kong), RASMUSSEN Tine (Denmark), LU Lan (China), ZHU Lin (China) XIE Xingfang (China) WANG ~ Chen (Hong Kong) Hongyan (France) XU ~ Huaiwen (Germany) WANG Lin (China) and NEHWAL Saina (India). There is not much difference of points among last four players in ranking, and Saina could reach to 7th position easily.
Saina, born in the city of Hisar in Haryana is getting training from Indian badminton legend Pullela Gopichand at his academy in Hyderabad. She became the first India to win the World Junior Championships in Pune this year. She won another accolade in the Commonwealth Youth Games held at Pune where she won women's title.
