The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) will not be hiking the costs of its steel products in the coming two to three months. Due to the prevailing inflationary conditions in India, the government has asked this prominent public sector steel-making company to cut the prices. By the end of March, inflation touched 7.4 per cent, the highest level since November 2004.
The Steel Authority of India Limited will maintain its performance and make more steel available to the country, apart from taking measures to enhance production as well as efficiency. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has laid the foundation stone of the Rs 60-billion expansion and modernization of Bokaro Steel Plant of SAIL. Having a production capacity of 14 million, SAIL has a market share of 30 per cent.
