The 11th Rajiv Gandhi Annual Award for contribution to Indian cinema was presented to actors Saif Ali Khan, Lara Dutta and Darsheel Safary during a gala function organized in Mumbai. The biggies from the political fray as well as Bollywood were present at the event.

Upon receiving the award from Vilasrao Deshmukh, the CM of Maharashtra, Saif Ali khan remarked that it was for the first time that he was getting an award not associated with films completely. Lara Dutta too expressed her thanks for selecting her. Darsheel Safary was awarded as child prodigy for his role in Taare Zameen Par.

The occasion also saw the Chairman of Kalyani Group, Padma Bhushan Baba Kalyani being awarded by Deshmukh for his remarkable contribution to the field of business. Vir Sanghvi was awarded for his contribution to the field of journalism. Footballer Bhaichung Bhutia got the award for the most inspiring sports personality.

Among others who were honored with the prestigious annual Rajiv Gandhi Award include Anna Hazare for social service, Mehul Choksi for innovative marketing, Vandana Luthra as the Women Achiever, Sunny Varkey for education and Sameer Gehlaut as the young enterpreuner. Wrestler Khali was not present to receive his award for Super Achiever Wrestler.
