India will be receiving the Akula-II class Nerpa nuclear attack submarine from the Russian Navy on lease during early 2010.
 
"The submarine has undergone a range of sea trials, and state tests will begin in late October or early November, after which the Nerpa will be commissioned by the Pacific Fleet," a naval spokesman was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
 
Russia Navy has mentioned that the nuclear submarine will be commissioned formally for subsequent leas to India early next year.
 
The Indian crew will be trained along with Russian specialists and servicemen during 2010, after which Indian crew will use the submarine under Russian supervision.
 
The Indian crew would undergo a course of training together with Russian specialists and servicemen in early 2010. After training the Indian crew would sail on their own under the supervision of Russian instructors.
 
The delivery of the submarine had been delayed because of the onboard accident, which happened during in November last during the sea trials.
