Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Sobyanin, who is in India on a four-day itinerary, held discussion with minister of External Affairs, S M Krishna, on a wide range of topics including nuclear deals, bilateral trade and terrorism. This is a prelude to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Russian visit, which is slated for next month.
The Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC) meeting was chaired jointly by the Russian Deputy Premier and Krishna.
The nations have decided to give a facelift to the lethargic bilateral trade relations.
The Indian side pressed for a streamlined visa regime, specially fast-track processing of business visas that could be a key factor in spurring bilateral trade from $7 billion to $20 billion by 2015.
Sobyanin will call on Manmohan Singh later in the day.
Manmohan Singh will visit Russia during early December on a two-day itinerary to hold the annual summit meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
