A recent media report quoting a Russian official stated that United States and Russia will ink an agreement on civilian nuclear co-operation on the last day of the office of retiring President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday 6 May. This agreement infact happens to be nearly two decades old and deals with collaboration in developing reactors, storing and shipping uranium and nuclear materials. It was during the 2006 Group of Eight summit held in St Petersburg that deliberations between Vladimir Putin and George W Bush gave a fresh life to this deal.

Not wanting to be identified, the Russian official divulged that the deal was revived only in July 2006, though Russia had been awaiting this deal for the past 20 years. He also mentioned that the deal or agreement will be signed by the head of state-owned nuclear power firm Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko and US Ambassador William Burns at the Moscow President Hotel on Tuesday.
