Russia has maintained its supremacy in Federation cup by defeating Spain 3-1; fourth win in last five years. Russian player Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 consequently making Russia win over Spain. Earlier, Olympic Games bronze medalist Vera Zvonareva and former US Open champion Kuznetsova double defeated Garrigues and Carla Suarez Navarro to establish a 2-0 lead over Spain.

After losing the match to Kuznetsova, Medina said that the match was a tough one and she was not even close to it at any point of time. She admitted that Russian player stepped up on the big points. However, she said that her team cannot be criticized. She considered that her team did well to get to the final with available players and they have an overall satisfaction.

Victor team has strong players, and that can be understood from the fact that six players of the team are in Top 20 of world ranking. The victory has come for Russia despite the fact that its top players Maria Sharapova and Olympic champion Elena Dementieva were not playing here. Russian women tennis has been in boom since 2004 when they first won the Fed Cup.
