Russia on Saturday (May 16) launched a US communication satellite named ProtoStar-2 into the space. According to the Russian space agency, Roskosmos, the Briz-m rocket lifted the ProtoStar-2 satellite at 0057 GMT from the Baikonur space centre in Kazakhstan. Informing more, the Russian space agency said that the satellite will separate from the booster in 9 hours and 15 minutes.

The ProtoStar-2 satellite has been developed ProtoStar Ltd of United States. With a weight of 3,905 kg, the communication will remain in space for 15 years. The communication satellite has been launched with a motive to provide communication services to customers in various countries including Indonesia, India and the Philippines. The satellite will also help to access wideband Internet facilities in these countries.

The Russian space agency said that the orbital block is proceeding along a sub-orbital trajectory ensuring the orbit’s inclination of 51.5 degrees. Earlier another satellite developed by ProtoStar Ltd was orbited into space in July last year. The Asian unit of ProtoStar Ltd is located in Singapore. The primary control system for the newly launched satellite has been installed in Indonesia and will be operated by Indovision, a local subscription-based direct broadcast satellite service.
