Bulgarian Rumyana Neykova won the gold in the Women’s Single Sculls after finishing in a time of 7:22.34min. To seal the gold, she had to fend off Michella Guerette of the United States, who grabbed the silver medal after taking 0.44 seconds over the winning time. Ekaterina Karsten of Belarus managed to get hold of the bronze medal after finishing in 7:23.98min.
Neykova, who qualified second fastest into the finals after just being 0.43 seconds behind Karsten, turned the tables in the final and seized the narrow victory. Miroslava Knapkova of the Czech Republic led the first half of the race, but fell behind to finish in fifth. Interestingly US rower Guerette was at the rear for the first half of the race, but stepped-up at the 1500m to win silver.
