In order to make successful the second phase of the Indian government’s universal elementary education scheme Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the Department for International Development (DFID) of United Kingdom is going to lend it Rs 1,200. A formal declaration about this was made by Nemat Shafik, the permanent secretary of the DFID, in Delhi during the launching of the new country plan for India on Wednesday, June 11, 2008.
The Rs 1,200 Crore aid by this UK body is being provided so as to make sure that all Indian children aged between six and 14 years of age are enrolled in school and that they attend primary school on a regular basis. More females from the marginalized section will be encouraged to study apart from the endeavor being made to enhance the quality of primary education being provided. The DFID aid during the initial phase of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan made millions of kids get admission in schools, in the process raising the enrolment to 96 per cent.
