The Bangalore Royal Challengers beat the Deccan Chargers by 3 runs, thus, registering their second win at the DLF Indian Premier League, 2008. It was a very close match and the team that was tough enough to handle the pressure, in the end, won the match. During various points in the game the tide shifted from one team to another. The game went on to the last ball, which would decide the winner. Praveen Kumar was declared the Man of the Match as he took three wickets, to become the highest wicket taker in the match. Apart from him, Zaheer Khan also took two important wickets of Adam Gilchrist and Scott Styirs.

Fending a total of 156 runs, the Royal Challengers started their bowling spell well. Adam Gilchrist and Herschelle Gibbs were picked early in the game. While Gilchrist lofted a short delivery by Zaheer Khan to Jaffer, Gibbs was caught by Anil Kumble off a Parveen Kumar delivery. Deccan Chargers were put under some heavy pressure by the Royal Challengers but V.V.S Laxman and Rohit played some handsome knocks. Both these batsmen hit fifties but ultimately their attempts were in vein as the Deccan Chargers lost the match. After these two batsmen were dismissed, no other batsmen could survive at the crease. Afridi again disappointed his team, by adding just one run.

Earlier, Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to field. Wasim Jaffer and Virat Kohli of the Royal Challengers treated the bowlers of the Chargers viciously. But, the bowlers of the Deccan Chargers got hold of the game to a certain extent and restricted the Challengers to 156 runs for eight wickets. RP Singh picked up three wickets of Bharat Chipli, Virat Kohli and Mark Boucher. Off-spinner Pragyan Ojha got Jaffer out for 44 runs and successively got rid of Jacques Kallis as well. Though Rahul Dravid and Misbah ul Haq tried to consolidate the innings, but Shahid Afridi struck and took the wicket of Misbah. Scott Styris picked up Rahul Dravid off the last ball of the innings.
