Until now, Roger Federer had not managed to win any Grand Slam title this year. So he desired nothing more than closing this year with the US Open title and he's done it finally. It is since the past 72 years that Britain had been awaiting a male singles Grand Slam winner and now they have to wait some more.
Roger Federer was in superb form right from the word go during the final match and always dominating over opponent Murray. Though there was a brief period in the second set when he was down a break. Federer hit 36 winners in contrast to his opponent's 16 giving him his 13th Grand Slam title. The Swiss now stands closer to Pete Sampras's all-time record of 14. Despite losing, it was not all that bad for Andy Murray, who moves to the 4th position in world ranking.
