Top seed Roger Federer made it into the US open quarters on Monday. He defeated Tommy Robredo of Spain in straight sets by 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.

Federer will meet Robin Soderling in his next round. The quarter final win will give Federer set the record of 22nd straight time into the Grand Slam semis.

Federer speaking on his forthcoming clash with Soderling said, "He's got a big game and we had the final of the French Open - one of the most important matches of my career - so it's nice to play him again.”

"He has got some great shots and is strong off the baseline."

Federer won 10 out of 12 games to comfortably win the contest against Tommy Robredo. Federer took 57 minutes to capture the first set. Federer grabbed back-to-back breaks and took 5-1 lead in the second set.

The 28-year-old Federer with his title win will become the first player since American Bill Tilden in 1925 to win six straight US Open crowns.
