The new World No 1 in tennis universe, Rafael Nadal had to struggle to make it to the second round of the ongoing US Open. But four-time defending champion Roger Federer in contrast clinched an easy win against Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center on Tuesday, August, 26.

Federer has not won a Grand Slam this year and this win, therefore, is being seen as an attempt to clinch the first. Spaniard Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer in the finals of both French Open and Wimbledon this year, ending the Swiss player's four-and-a-half-year reign at the top in world rankings.

During this match, Roger Federer ousted the world number 118 Gonzalez by 6-3 6-0 6-3 in one hour 21 minutes. The Swiss tennis star has emerged victorious in three out of the four grand slams held in 2006 and 2007. Since 2002, it is for the first time that there is a chance that Federer is in danger of not winning even a single grand slam title in a year.
