Four-time defending champion Roger Federer has advanced to the fourth round of the ongoing US Open by defeating Czech Radek Stepanek 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday, August 31. This was the 30th consecutive US Open match which the Swiss tennis champion won. Just two more Grand Slam title crowns for Roger Federer and he will equal Pete Sampras' all time record of 14.

At present though he is trying to become the first since Bill Tilden in 1924 to win five US titles consecutively. Federer, who is world number two currently, had to give up his number one title to Rafael Nadal after the latter defeated Federer in both French Open and Wimbledon this year. In the history of tennis, it has never happened before that players met in the finals of three consecutive Slams same year.

The Swiss tennis ace denied Radek Stepanek his first time entry into the fourth round of the US Open. This happened after Stepanek had recently defeated Federer in a prior meeting at the Rome quarter-finals. Roger Federer will either play against Igor Andreev or Fernando Verdasco in the fourth round.
