The US President George W Bush, who is presently on a tour of the Middle East, has been welcomed as a ‘great leader’ and ‘a great friend’ of Israel during a gala ceremony held to commemorate the country’s 60th anniversary on Wednesday, May 14. But while Bush had remarked prior embarking on his journey that he will assist in promoting peace in Middle East, his visit got marked by violence. A rocket smashed into a commercial center at Israel’s Ashkelon city.  
 
Sources have informed that four Palestinians have died, which include two militants whereas nine have got wounded in a series of Israeli Army strikes and incursions into Gaza. Police in Israel informed that a rocket that was probably launched from northern Gaza targeted the Israeli city of Ashkelon. He added that the rocket hit a commercial center in the city, crashing through the roof of a health clinic and badly injuring a woman and her two-year-old daughter. A doctor who was attending the woman and her child as well as one more person also got hurt in the attack.
 
Maj. Gen. Uriel Bar-Lev, the police commander of Israel’s southern district, has remarked that it was made in Iran rocket as it bears Iranian fingerprints. The White House has rebuked the rocket attack on Israel, holding the Islamist group Hamas controlling Gaza responsible for it. In Gaza, however, many outfits have claimed responsibility for this attack. Israel has responded that it is only a matter of time before it undertakes military operations.
