Rocker Sufjan Stevens has abandoned plans to write an album about every U.S. state, conceding it was a ridiculous idea.
The musician set out on the mission, starting with Greetings From Michigan: The Great Lake State - an odd to his home state - and followed it with Illinoise.
But he has quickly deduced the challenge to create another 48 discs, following the same theme, was absurd.
Stevens tells Paste magazine, "The whole premise was such a joke. Maybe I took it too seriously. I started to feel like I was becoming a cliché of myself."
