Top-seeded Robin Soderling breezed past Giovanni Lapentti of Ecuador to make it into the second round of Stockholm Open. The Swede registered a 6-3, 6-0 straight set win over Lapentti.
The Swede took 3-1 lead in the opening set breaking Lapentti’s serve at the Royal Tennis Hall. Soderling also dominated the second set .He broke Lapentti again at the start of the second set.
Soderling said, “The first match is always the most difficult in a tournament. But I think I played better and better the longer the match lasted.”
Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia and third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland were knocked out in the first round of the Kremlin Cup. Former top-ranked Marat Safin defeated Davydenko by 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, while Radwanska was crushed by Maria Kirilenko. Kirsten Flipkens outclassed third-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues by 7-5, 6-3 advancing into the quarterfinals of the Luxembourg Open.
