Noted Indian economist and environmental scientist Rajendra Kumar Pachauri has been appointed to serve as the chairman of the UN body, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for a second term. A member of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) said that RK Pachauri was unanimously appointed IPCC chairman at the forum's plenary session in Geneva Tuesday, September 2.
TERI happens to be a Delhi based think tank, which too is headed by the Pachauri. The re-election of the noted Indian economist as IPCC chairman was inevitable as he had agreed to serve a second term few months back and also there was no other candidate in fray. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri has been serving as IPCC chairman since 2002. The duration of the second term is of five years. The IPCC is a UN body comprising over 2,500 scientists from all over the world, who provide scientific data and analysis of climate change.
