Rizwanur's mother Kishwar Jahan has filed an appeal in Calcutta HC, seeking criminal proceedings against ex-Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee and ex-Deputy Commissioner Gyanwant Singh. Evidently, Justice Dipankar Datta on August 14 had with a reprimand set free Mukherjee and Singh. The court, however, suggested that the state government should initiate disciplinary proceedings against the five police officers.
Kishwar Jahan has cited the famous case of Lata Singh vs. State of Uttar Pradesh, in its appeal. In that case, the Supreme Court had held that criminal proceedings should be initiated against all people interfering in inter-caste and inter-religious marriages. CBI has already slapped charges of abetment to suicide against three police officers Ajay Kumar, Sukanti Chakraborty and Krishnendu Das.
Other culprits, including Todis, Saraogi and Syed Moinuddin alias Pappu too have been implicated in CBI charge sheet. Now, CBI wants to start criminal proceedings, besides departmental proceedings against Mukharjee, and Singh. CBI in this regard, has appealed to HC which would be heard today by the division Bench headed by Chief Justice S S Nijjar.
