The retirement age of teaching specialists of the Central Health Service (CHS) was raised from 62 to 65 following authorization from the Union Cabinet’s Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday, June 6. 

It has, however, been underscored that the upping of retirement age will apply only to those who are engaged in teaching. The CHS officers in the administrative positions, who want their retirement age raised, have the option to of taking appointment in teaching positions in order to continue till 65.
 
Apart from this, the Union Cabinet’s Committee on Economic Affairs has also provided a green signal to a revamped draft agreement with US for financing education exchange programmes. As per this revamped draft agreement, India will contribute financially for the Fulbright exchange programme. 

Both India and US will enjoy equal say in the policy and decision making matters of this programme, which will be enlarged to double the number of scholars exchanged between the two parties. It was also decided that the scholarship will be renamed Fulbright-Jawaharlal Nehru Scholarships and Grants.
