Researchers at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) have claimed to develop a hydrogen-powered racing car. The newly developed car is expected to gather a speed of 170 kmph to break the Guinness World Record. This racing car will participate in hydrogen-powered car race in Germany in early 2009. The car is endowed with an internal combustion motorcycle engine that has been modified to run on hydrogen. The use of hydrogen to run this car has increased the possibilities of using hydrogen as a clean fuel in future.
According to experts, this new approach will usher a new era in automotive technologies. The developers of this racing car believe that after the launch, the hydrogen powered car will lead the Formula 1 competition. RMIT in collaboration with Germany’s Fachhochschule Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences is working on hydrogen car project and it is expected that very soon, hydrogen will attain the place of sustainable car fuel. The new one-seater hydrogen car is fast as well as powerful.
