Renault has brought up an environment friendly concept car; it has green tinted windows. Renault Z.E. is powered by lithium-ion batteries that have a six year lifespan. The concept car has made its debut in Paris. According to Serge Yoccoz, Renault's project director for electric vehicles as early as next year, Renault will begin electric vehicle programs in Israel, Denmark and Portugal.
Yoccoz said that Renault hopes to add other countries to this list in the next few months. Accordingly, whenever possible, the Z.E. uses high-tech measures to seek better range out of those batteries. Currently, range of the battery is estimated at only 60-90 miles. Renault has used rear-view cameras instead of side mirrors to streamline its aerodynamic profile.
Solar panels have been built onto the roof to aid in recharging. The concept of double-walled insulating bodywork is used to keep the interior warm or cool, without needing to crank up the heat or a/c. However, Yoccoz opined that electric cars must be priced less than gas or diesel car. According to him the electric car should be less expensive particularly the price one pays for running the car should be low.
