Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) have entered a significant partnership with UNAIDS, the joint United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS to fight the epidemic in India. The partnership will support India in its efforts to scale up towards universal access to HIV prevention, care and support and treatment. The collaborators are also going to work towards achieving the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
The specific focus of the collaboration is on expanding health care outreach to rural populations, especially serving those living with HIV. The partnership is likely to result in development of a sustainable business model for social change to ensure equal access to HIV treatments and services for the poor throughout the country. The programme is in tune with the National AIDS Control Programme - III.
A Reliance statement on Monday divulged that the partnership will be built on the healthcare agenda set by RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani and UN Assistant Secretary General Michel Sidibe. Michel Sidibe talking about the partnership remarked that she is convinced that such a business model will enable countries to quicken the pace of action in scaling up programmes and meets the needs of hard-to-reach populations. The partnership also aims at addressing the existing gaps in the public health system and building the capacities of public and private healthcare providers in India.
