The telecom branch of Anil Ambani's ADA Group, Reliance Communications (RCOM) is all geared up to introduce its GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) service in the key cities of India.  On September 28, 2008, the company soft introduced GSM in Mumbai and Delhi in participation with its 10,000 employees. 

 

Foraying into the telecom space of Mumbai, the Reliance Communications happens to be the second player to do so after Idea Cellular. Sources inform that RCOM has also begun testing its GSM network in parts of UP, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan as well as four southern states.

 

The company of Anil Ambani's has begun testing its GSM network in cities responsible for at least 45 per cent of the telecom subscriber base in India. 'Depending upon how quickly the network is optimised, the final launch for customers could take a couple of months or more after the soft launch', industry sources said. RCOM plans to invest Rs 6000 crore for introducing GSM in circles where the service is not present.
