Ravi Shastri has been inducted in International Cricket Council's (ICC) cricket committee in place of West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding. The ICC has approved the appointment of former Indian player at its board meeting in Dubai on Friday (April 17). Michael Holding resigned from the cricket committee last year after his differences with ICC. The ICC had decided to change the result of the 2006 Oval Test between England and Pakistan from a forfeited win for England to a draw, much to the disapproval of Holding.

Commenting on the appointment of Ravi Shastri, ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said that ICC is very happy to find such an experienced person in its cricket committee. Eulogizing Shastri, the ICC chief said that the Indian player was an outstanding performer during his playing days. According to Logart, Ravi Shastri is a highly placed broadcaster and enjoys a huge amount of respect in cricket world.

Haroon Lorgat is of the opinion that Ravi Shastri will be a great asset to ICC cricket committee. Ravi Shastri is among the few Indian players who used to bat right–handed and bowl left arm spin. He is much remembered for his performance in the World Championship of Cricket at Australia in 1985. Apart from being a shrewd cricket expert, Shastri is one of the finest cricket commentators.
