Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg will take on Scottish football club Rangers FC for the coveted UEFA cup on May 14, 2008 in Manchester, England. Zenit beat Bayern Munich 4-0 in the semi final to enter the finals of the UEFA cup. This was Bayern Munich's biggest defeat in six years. Pavel Pogrebnyak scored the first goal for Zenit in the fourth minute. Konstantin Zyryanov and Victor Fayzulin scored two more goals to give Zenit 3-0 lead before half time. After halftime Pogrebnyak scored another goal for Zenit to seal the fates of Bayern Munich.
It will be the first UEFA cup final for Zenit which has now become the second Russian team to reach the final of a European championship. Earlier CSKA Moscow had won the UEFA cup in 2005. Meanwhile Rangers FC defeated Fiorentina 4-2 in a penalty shootout . Fiorentina had the upper hand in the match creating several chances but couldn't score. The match went to extra time as none of the teams could score a goal.
Even though Rangers FC were reduced to 10 men in the 111th minute of the game, they defense didn't allow Fiorentina to score any goals. Daniel Cousin was shown red card after for head butting Fiorentina midfielder Fabio Liverani. Rangers are the second Scottish side to reach the UEFA Cup final after Celtic FC.
