Leading drug manufacturing company of India, Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd has acquired Ochoa Laboratories’ skin care and lifestyle brands for an undisclosed amount. While making the announcement on Thursday (May 21), Ranbaxy stated that it has acquired trademarks, product dossiers and marketing rights for Ochoa's entire range of dermatological and lifestyle products.
According to the drug maker, the acquisition of Ochoa Laboratories’ skin care and lifestyle brands will further consolidate Ranbaxy's existing derma portfolio. Ranbaxy stated that Ochoa's products have considerable brand appeal and enjoy viable equity with doctors. Ranbaxy already has a presence in the dermatology and steroids market with products such as Zole-F, Suncros, Efflora, Fucidin and Teczine.
Ranbaxy Laboratories said that at the initial period, Ochoa's products will be marketed in India. According to the chairman, chief executive officer and MD of Ranbaxy, Malvinder Mohan Singh, India is one of the most fast growing dermatology markets and the company is considering to lead the segment. In 2007, Ranbaxy had acquired marketing rights for 13 Bristol-Myers Squibb’s dermatology products in the US.
