Turkey’s Ramazan Shahin bags gold medal defeating Andriy Stadnik of Ukraine in the Men's Freestyle Wrestling 66 kilogram final on Wednesday, August 20. This accounts as the first gold medal for Turkey. The competition was a tight one when Shahin barely managed to swipe it at the end resulting in becoming a World Champion Olympic freestyle wrestling gold medalist at 66 kilograms.

Also a European champion, Shahin’s gold was a tight victory for him. He lost the first period on a tiebreaker because Stadnik scored the final points of the period, but won the third when he scored last. Stadnik, leading 2-0 in the third, had Shahin in a do or die situation but he managed to tilt Stadnik's shoulders towards the mat for exposure while working his way out from the bottom position.

The two bronze medals were won each by Otar Tushishvili of Georgia, a semifinal loser to Sahin, and Sushil Kumar of India.
