Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Singh has been sworn in as the chief minister of Chhattisgarh for the second consecutive time. The oath taking ceremony of Raman Singh at the Police Parade Ground was attended by over 15,000 workers of the BJP as well as party president Rajnath Singh and senior leader L.K. Advani. The 56-year-old Raman Sing was sworn in under the administration of Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Friday (December 12).
Raman Singh who became the chief minister of Chhattisgarh after the 2003 elections played a very crucial role in making BJP victorious in the in the two-phased polls held on Nov 14 and 20. The BJP has won 50 seats in the 90-member assembly. A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist, Raman Singh has a very sober attitude unlike the other traditionally flamboyant politicians.
After holding the reigns of the state for the second time, Raman Singh has to deal with plenty of issues like containing the Maoists, improving the quality of life of people living below poverty line etc. Although he is called the Mr Clean, during his tenure several scams including the siphoning of Rs 110 crores from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) project and others had erupted up.
