The United Kingdom’s Babel Media Ltd, which is an international provider of specialist services to interactive entertainment industry, has been acquired by Raman Roy, who is considered as amongst the pioneers of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in India

The reason Roy cited on Tuesday, July 1 for buying the UK firm was to provide his firm Quatrro a firm grip in the international gaming outsourcing sector. Even though Raman Roy did not reveal how much the deal is worth, experts estimate that Babel Media Ltd must be at least worth $100 million. Roy holds a majority stake in the company. A private equity fund DE Shaw has also acquired a significant amount of the stake.

Raman Roy pointed out that through this deal Babel, which comprises of more than 500 employees, will become a part of Quatrro.  The acquisition of Babel is being seen as a part of Quatrro's plans to foray into newer fields and areas for outsourced services. In this context, Roy stated that Babel will help Quattro gain presence in Eastern Europe, Canada and other parts of the globe.

Post acquisition, Raman Roy’s company will seek to provide online game testing and localization services to clients. As per a recent PWC report, the gaming industry is expected to burgeon from the present $27 billion to $68 billion by 2012.
