Rajasthan Royals pipped Chennai Super Kings by three wickets in an exciting final to win the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday. It was indeed a great finish to the completely entertaining event which lasted 44 days.

Putting the Chennai Super Kings to bat after winning the toss, the Rajasthan Royals did well to restrict the Chennai Super Kings to a modest total of 163 for five. The Rajasthan bowlers bowled tight lenth and kept the lid on Chennai batsmen all through the match. Suresh Raina (43) was the top scorer for the Chennai side. Yusuf Pathan once again took three crucial wickets for his team.

Replying to the Chennai challenge, the Royals lost 3 wickets for just 42 runs on the board but Yusuf Pathan's 39-ball 56 ensured that the Royals did not falter and remain in the title hunt. Needing 8 runs in the last over, Sohail Tanvir (9 not out), in the company of his captain Shane Warne (9), hit the winning run pulling off Lakshimpathy Balaji.

Rajasthan Royals received the top prize of $1.2 million and a glittering gem-laden trophy while the runners-up Chennai Super KIngs won $600,000.
