Thackeray was released on a surety of Rs 15,000. Earlier he was sent to judicial custody for instigating the party activists to vandalize several railway examination centres in Maharashtra. The MNS activists also attacked the non-Maharashtrian candidates who were appearing for rail recruit examination this Sunday.
Besides his release from the jail, Thackeray also got bail in two other cases pending against him. The MNS chief was arrested by the police from Ratnagiri on October 21, 2008 for instigating violence. After his arrest, wide scale violence gripped the metro city, most of which was carried out by Thackeray's supporters and MNS activists. In order to stop the violence curfew has been imposed in some parts of the city. He had spent one night at jail in Dombivli’s Manpada police station.
