Actor-politician Raj Babbar has joined the Congress Party on October 5, 2008. The Agra MP, Raj Babbar had quit the Samajwadi Party (SP) in 2006 after his altercation with party general secretary Amar Singh. After his split with SP, Raj Babbar has formed a new party called Jan Morcha with former PM V.P. Singh.  Report says that the actor will contest in the up coming Lok Sabha elections form Fatehpur Sikri (Rural). Earlier Raj Babbar has represented Agra City twice in the Lok Sabha.
 
Raj Babbar joined the Congress party in a rally at Agra. The rally at the BSNL grounds was attended by senior congress leader Digvijay Singh and Uttar Pradesh party president Rita Bahuguna Joshi. During his speech in the Congress rally, Raj Babbar criticized the role of Chief Minister Mayabati in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Babbar has recently succeeded in bringing the powerful Jat leader Raj Kumar Chahar from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to Congress Party.
