Government has mentioned that the 13.05 lakh employees of Indian Railways will be receiving productivity-linked bonus for 2008-09, which will be equal to 75 days of their wages.
 
This decision for giving the bonus to the Railway employees was taken during the Union Cabinet meeting, which was held on Thursday. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who presided over the meeting, mentioned that this will cost the government Rs.889 crore.
 
The non-gazetted employees of Indian railways will be the people who will be benefitted from this scheme.
 
Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni, who addressed the media after the Union Cabinet meeting, mentioned that the employees of the Railway Protection Force and Railway Protection Special Force are not entitled to receive the bonus.
 
The wage calculation ceiling prescribed for the bonus is Rs.3,500 per month.
