Spanish player Rafael Nadal, who is ranked as the world number two, beat the lesser ranked German Nicolas Kiefer by 7-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday, June 28, to enter the fourth round of the 2008 Wimbledon Championships. It was an all-in-all an intense performance from both players throughout the first set until the tiebreak when one precious early break by four-times French Open champion Rafael Nadal was all that he required to clinch the lead. Nicolas Kiefer had never before in their previous three encounters taken a set off the Spanish player.

Kiefer imploded during the second when the brutal Nadal broke his service twice and seized a commanding lead. Nadal went into an overdrive during the third set with some remarkably powerful serving and excellent passing shots when the sun was going down behind the Centre Court. So riveting was the game that the audiences spontaneously broke into a Mexican wave for both players when the German player finally broke Nadal when he was serving for the match but it was too late.
