The city of Ludhiana in Punjab got its first radio taxi service on Thursday (June 11). Punjab Transport Minister Master Mohan Lal flagged off 25 radio taxis at Sutlej Club. Ludhiana is the third city of the state to get the facility of air-conditioned radio taxi service after Mohali and Amritsar. The new service is expected to offer world class commuting experience along with quick response time.
With the launch of the new radio taxi service, the residents and visitors of the city are expected to reap great benefits. People can avail the new service at any time just by dialing 4141414. It will allow the people of Ludhiana to get a air-conditioned taxi within minute of the call. Master Mohan Lal informed that these Mega Cabs are equipped with electronic tamper-proof meters which will ensure accurate billing.
The air-conditioned taxis will charge Rs 15 per km, rate fixed by the Punjab Government. The service will be available within a radius of 40 km covering places like Khanna, Jagraon, Malerkotla and Phagwara. Informing about it, Mohan Lal said that the vehicles run on state-of-the-art international systems with computerised online tracking of the Cab through GPS/GPRS technology. The incorporation of the technology keeps the cabs constantly in touch with the control room and thereby offer instant pick-up and drop service at a call.
The minister informed that such services will be shortly launched in Jalandhar shortly. He also said that the Punjab transport ministry is aiming to transform at least 50% of the busses of the Punjab transport (PRTC) into air-conditioned vehicles as well as the construction of ultra modern air-conditioned bus stands at Mohali, Patiala and Bathinda.
