R Madhavan admits that he was under pressure to act in Rajkumar Hirani's movie “3 Idiots”.
He wanted to match the expectations that the filmmaker had from him.
The movie “3 idiots” also stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Sharman Joshi.
"Shooting for 3 Idiots was a big challenge. The combo of actors in the film is brilliant. When you have people like Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Sharman Joshi acting alongside you, you are always on your toes. I was constantly under pressure to live up to the expectation. These people are such brilliant actors that I couldn't have let them down," says Madhavan.
The actor lost some weight for the movie and was on tough diet routine.
"More than physical, it was challenging mentally as you have to lose weight, keep a strict control on your diet and also get into intensive training. I was on a protein diet; I was walking for over an hour and then I was hitting the gym regularly for about 40 minutes. I lost quite a lot of weight and I'm looking fitter," he says.
Madhavan had earlier worked with Aamir Khan in “Rang De Basanti” and admits that his respect for the actor has increased.
"My respect for the man has gone up and I'm in love with him. His professionalism is quite addictive. He has worked for many years now and has achieved a lot but he is not one bit complacent and there's an urgency and earnestness in him that makes him deliver such brilliant work," he says.
The actor wants to do good quality movies and solo lead or not, does not bother him.
"Solo lead is a different ball game and there are not many films being made that have just one actor. I will look at opportunities which I can take up. But now I'm happy doing quality films. Solo or multiple doesn't really matter if the film is good," he ends.
