The United States-based technology giant Qualcomm is going to undertake a number of initiatives in an attempt to make the third-generation mobile and broadband services affordable in India. For this, Qualcomm is introducing an Internet access device that will cost around Rs 8,000. Qualcomm is also planning to unveil a USB port costing about Rs 3,500 in order to access high-speed wireless broadband on laptops or PCs. Though the 3G services have not yet come to India, Qualcomm is preparing to offer the end-devices at reasonable price.
Mr Kanwalinder Singh, President, Qualcomm India and South Asia said that the company is all set for 3G. He said that Qualcomm has got the devices and by using its single chip solution the company has hit a price point that will be suitable for the Indian market. Mr Singh remarked that when the policy gets declared and operators begin providing 3G services, Qualcomm will ensure that the users take advantage of this technology. Qualcomm is also going to introduce smart phones priced less than Rs 10,000 and based on multi-operating systems such as Windows, Linux and Android.
