That Priyanka Vadra recently met with Nalini Sriharan, one of the conspirators in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, has created a flurry in the society and news circuit. Priyanka has accepted meeting Nalini saying that she nurtures no anger, hatred and violence and that she will not permit these human emotions to grip her. The daughter of the late dynamic Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi said that her visit to the Vellore jail in Tamil Nadu to meet Nalini was a personal one, guided totally by her own individual initiative.
She said that she expected people to understand and respect her decision. Nalini Sriharan, who is wedded to Murugan, was sentenced to death in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. She was also awarded capital punishment for being involved in the 21 May 1991 killing of the former Indian PM at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. Her sentence was later changed to life imprisonment after Sonia Gandhi requested leniency for the sake of the convict's daughter.
Talking about her meeting with Nalini Sriharan, Priyanka said it was her way of coming to terms with the death of her father and the loss that she underwent. Her politician brother Rahul Gandhi too said he had no problem with his sister meeting Nalini Sriharan.
