Heir to the British throne, Prince William paid a secret visit to Afghanistan to meet frontline British troops. The 25 year old Prince’s office also revealed that he flew a military transport plane for part of the journey to Kandahar. He piloted a C-17 military transport aircraft during part of his Sunday flight to Afghanistan. Prince William spent about three hours at Kandahar with the frontline British troops.

Prince William’s trip to Afghanistan came nearly two months after his younger brother Harry ended a three month army tour in Afghanistan. After his brief stay in Afghanistan, Prince William flew to Ubeid Air Base in Qatar, where he spent two hours before flying back to England. Permission for the trip was taken from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. A spokesman revealed that the trip was meant for familiarizing the Prince with operations of the RAF. The young prince was only recently awarded Royal Air Force (RAF) Wings, which he received from his father.
